Top 5 Songs of 2008

200px-santogold3

5.  Santogold – LES Aristes

It’s cool, it’s chill.  Love the lyrics:

What am I here for
I left my home to disappear is all
I’m here for myself
Not to know you
I don’t need no one else
Fit in so good the hope is that you cannot see me later
You don’t know me
I am an introvert an excavator
I’m duckin’ out for now
a face in dodgy elevators
Creep up and suddenly
I found myself
an innovator

4. Kanye West – Love Lockdown

Lockdown is popular with everyone from 8 to 80 and has topped the charts, but it is an undeniable gem in a wasteland of crappy pop hits.  The tribal beat on Kanye’s cracking over produced voice captures an emotion that I’ve been feeling all year.

3. Blitzen Trapper – Black River Killer

A smooth Johnny Cash tale of naive forgiveness and uncontrollable evil over a hypnotic acoustic guitar melody.   The hip hop sine wave that follows each chorus sounds like a alt-country tune written by Warren G.

2. Atmosphere – You

This is the get up and live track.   Classic Atmosphere.   White boy angst.  Tales of white girl drama.  The whole album is a bombshell.

1. The Duke and The Duchess – Reservoir Park

The track would have fit nicely into the Young Guns soundtrack, the movie retelling of the exploits of Billy The Kid.  The Duke and The Duchess have found the sound.   You’ll mistake it for a Rolling Stones song you never heard.   A cold expression of fatalism over an acoustic guitar.

I found Toycyte looking up Art Basel Miami.   Toycyte.com has plenty of news on Toy collectable art.   According to the site, Ron English is going to be at Art Basel signing his collectibles.

Tokyoflash Japan: Unique Japanese Watches

What’s cool about these watches is the use of alternate symbols to tell time.   In this case, yellow for hours, red and green for minutes. The prices go from $70 – $200.

Jrips Found >> Radiohead contributes song to Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke :: Film & TV Music News :: Articles :: Paste

“Everthing That Rises Must Converge” is the title of a short story by Flannery O’Conner and I always thought it made a great mantra for life.    Great elements, great artists, great thoughts seem to find each other and bond through time.

Here’s another example.    Radiohead will be doing the credits song for Chuck Palahniuk’s new book-to-movie, Choke.   If you don’t know Chuck, you may remember Fight Club which was also adapted from one of his novels.   He’s a mind blowing writer and I can’t wait for the movie.

If I remember correctly, the Pixies’ Wave of Mutilation ended out Fight Club with the building’s collapsing.

WordPress Crop Tool Bug

I tried to upload a profile avatar to my WordPress.com account. In IE 7 there’s a bug that put the cropping controls 200px above the picture. See below.

I had to switch to Firefox to make it work. Bug occurred in IE 7.

So, now, I’m editing this post in Firefox and I can’t add a new category called “wordpress.com” or any name for that matter because of a bug in Firefox.  So it will remain “uncategorized”.

Doesn’t WordPress want me to use the “.com” system.  Isn’t that their true goal?   I would assume that only the .com can be monetized and the .org is just a great way to create a community of developers that will create future wordpress.com features at a fraction of the cost.
